When will the government come to the conclusion that the minimum wage in this country is a joke!?

If you want a better paying job then you get an education and go after the better jobs. Every one wants the wages to go up but when the price of the products go up to cover the higher wages then the same people complain about the high cost of living. If the government doubled the minimum wage to-morrow and McDonald's doubled the price of their burgers the next day the only response would be that we have to raise minimum wage again.

people on these forums b i t c h and moan about people being "leaches" on welfare and then the same people complain that minimum wage doesn't need to be raised cause these people need to go get real jobs.  They need to make up their minds.  If you want them all of welfare raise minimum wage. a lot people on welfare also work but just can't earn enough.

And if you want minimum wage to stay the same then get over the fact that people are going to need some assistance to pay their bills.

edit:  Okay minimum wage jumped by $2 in ontario a few years ago (slowly over a couple years but still..) it was good. the price of a hamburger didn't go up at McDonalds. the fear of small businesses not being able to do it was debunked.  5 years ago we were sitting around $6.50 for minimum wage.  We are now at $8.50 and by 2010 will be at $10.  None of those fears everyone had ever came true.  It did nothing but good for the economy and the people who have no choice but to work for minimum wage.

If minimum wage never increased we'd all still be making 20 cents an hour like they did 70 years ago.

There's a simple solution to the minimum wage problem you're concerned about. It's called go to school, ... join the military, ... get yourself out of the bottom rung. There's many ways to do it, ... all of which involve work and committment, ... so instead of whining about something you can't control, control those things which you can! This is America, Baby!

Lets stop fooling around with these tiny little bumps in the minimum wage!

It's really simple. Greedy business owners are getting rich on the backs of workers. We need to pass some laws to fix this once and for all!

First, make the minimum wage $100.00 an hour! The poor and downtrodden will then BEGIN to catch up to the rich! Second, make it a crime (felony) to fire someone for any reason! If a company insists it cannot stay in business because of the new minimum wage, simply nationalize that business!

Also, it should be a crime to raise prices. Everyone knows that businesses cause inflation by raising prices!

Require anyone having a larger home than he needs to give whatever he doesn't need to poor people. Anyone who doesn't voluntarily do so should be re-educated.

No families need two cars. Everyone with more than one car should have to give the second to someone with no car.

The same goes for TV's, PC's, etc.

And to save the environment everyone with any land should have to raise vegetables and give the excess to the poor. Also, we need to have rolling blackouts and outlaw air conditioning.

It's just not fair!!!!!!!!!!
