  1. Hi Lola!

The next eclipse of the moon you'll see in Virginia will be the evening of December 20-21, 2010.

This will be a wee hours eclipse for us in eastern North America.  The partial lunar eclipse starts at 1:32 a.m. Eastern Standard Time in the early morning of December 21.  Totality arrives at 2:40 a.m. and lasts 1 hour 13 minutes.

After that, the next total lunar eclipse for VA is in the small hours of April 15, 2014.

By the way, the next total eclipse of the SUN to be seen anywhere in Virginia is not until May 11, 2078.

  2. The total solar eclipse of Aug 1 was not visible in the US.

It was visible from a narrow corridor through northern Canada (Nunavut), Greenland, central Russia, eastern Kazakhstan, western Mongolia and China.

A partial eclipse could be seen from the much broader path of the Moon's penumbra, including eastern North America and most of Europe and Asia.

The time of greatest eclipse was 10:21 UTC on August 1.

  3. The lunar eclipse on August 16th will not be visible in the U.S.A.

    NASA site for eclipses.  Enjoy

  5. I find it funny that some top contributers spam crapso much (only one of the above). Explains why they are I guess. Anyways I found some maps.

Heres thext two solar eclipses. If you live in the white area you'll have a full view of the moon throughout the eclipse (provided you aren't cursed with cloudy weather like I was last time):
