Question:

When will the myth of Global Warming die once and for all?

Global temperatures have not risen since 1998, and Average global temperatures in 2008 are forecast to be lower than in previous years. So when will people stop buying into this myth and making hypocrites like Al Gore (who consumes far more enery than the average american), wealthy?

  1. Your question is flawed because global warming is not a myth.

Global temperatures have indeed risen since 1998, as is abundantly clear if you actually look at the data:

    http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs...

    http://tamino.files.wordpress.com/2007/0...

2008 is forecast to be lower than recent years because it's a strong La Nina cycle year, not because global warming has magically stopped.  Moreover, it's been forecast by the same people (climate scientists at the Hadley Centre) that at least two of the years from 2010-2015 will be hotter than 1998.

I'd be interested to see how you explain that away if global warming is just a myth.  When you look at the data, this conspiracy theory falls apart immediately.

  2. not soon enough

  3. Educate yourself:

    http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/corporate/pr...

"A simple mathematical calculation of the temperature change over the latest decade (1998-2007) alone shows a continued warming of 0.1 °C per decade"

    http://www.skepticalscience.com/Global-w...

If the blogosphere has been as active in 1987 as it is now, "global warming stopped in 1981" would be a certain front runner on the skeptic leaderboard.

This plot shows nicely that 7 of the last 9 years are above the warming trend measured from 1975 - 2000:

    http://tamino.files.wordpress.com/2008/0...

This should help explain when we'll actually know statistically (as opposed to wishful thinking) if the warming has stopped, reversed, or continues:

  4. In time, like 5 years.

But here will be the next myth:

Global Reflecting - We have so many buildings, cares and everything covered in glass and its reflecting too much of the suns light back to the sun. This will cause our sun to implode.

  5. and what is your expertise?

  6. Not sure where you get your "facts" but I have an answer...

It will die once and for all when:

People accept the fact that the Earth is actually flat or...

Give up the notion that the Earth revolves around the sun,

Admit that the world is actually only 10,000 years old,

Prove that the moon landings were fake,

    Accomplish the mission in Iraq,

Give up this notion that there are tiny, microscopic things called "germs" that make us sick,

Recognize Rush Limbaugh as a hard news journalist,

Scoff at the notion that smoking is bad for you and,

Prove that Einstein was wrong about this whole relativity thing.

    Does that answer your question?

  7. thank you finally someone with a brain!!!

I am educated seems to me like its still a theory.  One volcano Emmit's more co-2 gasses than all the autos in the USA.  I'm tired of this argument cant you lefties come up with something new.  Lets talk about how Obama is going to bring us all together and we can be living in perfect harmony.  Kooks I tell ya the Left are all Kooks that drink cool aide.  I just cant talk to them anymore they dont listen anyway.  We are all doomed when it comes to the doom and gloom Left.

Tell coyotec your expertise is common sense!!!

  8. Probably when 2012 gets closer.

2012 is predicted to be the end of the world.  Once this starts being made into movies, people will believe this is true as well.

The planet will most likely be colder then then it is today and most people will consider it a bad joke.

  9. Decades upon decades will go by first.  Major changes will be brought about.  These could include geographical changes, like the Great Lakes flowing down to the Gulf of Mexico.  Maybe we become  a Police State.  Maybe we lose the United States (which we don't want to happen but i t could happen.)

  10. first, it's not a myth.

second, how 'bout we ignore 1998 -- because it was an anomalous year.

if it's really going down, ignoring one single year shouldn't be a problem.

let's make a deal, you get 2 years to pick to ignore.

the graphs still show temps rising.

    http://www.globalwarmingart.com/wiki/Ima...

    http://www.earth-policy.org/Indicators/T...

    http://www.elmhurst.edu/~chm/vchembook/g...

keep in mind, arctic and antarctic ice.

what happens to the temp of a glass of ice water.

while the ice is melting, there is no change.

after the ice finishes melting, the temperature goes up pretty quick.

arctic ice is keeping temps pretty moderate.

    but it's melting.

at the point that it's mostly gone, and there's not enough to absorb the excess energy that the earth is retaining, then you'll see warming that makes the last 40 years look positively static.

  11. If the national academy of sciences says it's true, it aint a myth.

  12. When Al Gore made all the money he wants.

  13. When the rules of logic turn on themselves and those types of things prove something.

  14. The 6% of the population that believes that he lunar landing was a hoax may never come to terms with global warming:

"Seventy-one percent say that global warming is probably happening, 6 percent believe it is probably not happening..."

    http://www.fightglobalwarming.com/conten...

"A 1999 poll by the The Gallup Organization found that 89 percent of the US public believed the landing was genuine, while 6 percent did not..."

Denial is a perfectly normal reaction to a threatening situation:

“The closer you look, the more clearly you see that denial is part of the uneasy bargain we strike to be social creatures,” said Michael McCullough, a psychologist at the University of Miami and the author of the coming book “Beyond Revenge: The Evolution of the Forgiveness Instinct.” “We really do want to be moral people, but the fact is that we cut corners to get individual advantage, and we rely on the room that denial gives us to get by, to wiggle out of speeding tickets, and to forgive others for doing the same.”

    http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/20/health...

    Psychology: Denial

    http://www.wowessays.com/dbase/ae5/csk11...

"Dr. Hilary Knatz, the author of Getting On, states that 'Denial, is a way of coping with unpleasant realities' (Knatz, 1999). She then goes on to explain that: Denial, in the psychological/psychiatric vernacular, is a defensive strategy to minimize anxiety."

"Sadly, many addicts continue to act out on their addictions while their world collapses around them blaming everything but the addiction for their problems (USDHHS, 1994)"

  15. Hallelujah to you!

"U.N. Forecasters: Global Temperatures to Decrease"

This year it's snowed in Baghdad.  It's been the coldest Winter in China in over 100 years, the northern hemisphere has more snow cover than in recent years, all the ice that melted in the arctic is back.  I mean you could go on and on with proof that Global Warming is NOT real, and yet these people conned by air bags like Al Gore (who buys fictitious carbon credits from HIMSELF) believe him.

This Global Warming 'crisis' is putting mercury laden bulbs in our homes, endangering our children.  People that believe in it scream for reform and change, yet they don't realize they will have to pay for it.

Global Warming is a wonderful money making machine.  That's all it is.  The Globe warms and cools naturally, it was WARMER in the middle ages than it is now. That is FACT, and yet people are like ..cattle, mesmorized by the myth of Global Warming.

It cannot end soon enough, buddy, it cannot end soon enough!

  16. Al Gore and the IPCC prey on the emotions of people, knowing that people want to "protect their planet". CO2 levels are too low, not too high. The planet can use higher levels for stability sake as in past periods. But as PT Branum said, there's a sucker born every minute, and that's the thing Al Gore and the IPCC are counting on. There's big money in the Global Warming scare and as long as they can prey on the masses, they will benefit from it. Better air quality is good for the planet, but CO2 is not a danger. Man's contribution to global warming is minimal. The sun and volcanoes have a far bigger impact. But the global warming scare is not about science, because true scientists know the truth, the earth is in an interglacial period.

  17. Well, most data used to support global warming is old. Recently, and by that I mean the past several years, temperatures haven't risen. When will people learn? I suppose when temperature data now becomes old data, then people might be more inclined to use it, and go, "Oh, so this isn't a permanent thing. Guess we'll have to worry about real problems now, like pollution and crime."

  18. I agree, not soon enough.  No one seems to understand that if we arent getting warmer with each additional increment of co2, then the whole theory is c**p.  You cant argue "it is raising global average temperatures" when one single area is responsible for the above average temps.  Northern Siberia is what im talking about, you can see the temperture anomoly on the GISS maps..  why would co2 cause just one large area to warm so much?

It doesnt.   GISS claims there is an anomoly there even though they have very little, or no temp stations there, and if they are there, they arent maintained.  Do some research on it.
