When will the new 80GB PS3, that will cost $399, be a available for purchase?

I was about to buy a PS3 today, but I couldn't find one anywhere. So, I asked someone at BestBuy and then at CircuitCity and they said the 40GB was going to discontinued and an 80GB model that would sell for $399 would be put on sell this fall. They did not know when the new PS3 would be on the shelves though. Am I going to have to wait until October before I can buy this new 80GB PS3?

sony said at E3 it wil come out in september but call best buy mid september or check the website to see when its in stock:)

Sony originally said "early September" for the U.S., but it's been confirmed for August 28 in Australia and Europe.
