What is taking GM so long with the release of the Chevy Camaro? I contacted my dealership to see if I could order one back in September, and they told me they might be available for ordering in early spring. So I called back and now they're saying mid to late 2009 ?? wtf? I heard they were trying to build a powerful hybrid engine for the car, trying to meet the demands of auto enthusiasts who want a highly efficient performance car with the rising gas prices. Obviously they're having trouble. And I'm sure GM is trying to give the next gen Mustang Ford is working on right now a rival when it is released. Does anybody know FOR SURE when the Camaro will be available for purchase?

  1. Spring of 2009. Why? Because they told us 2 years ago that it will be in the beginning of 2008. A good surprise from Dodge, the new Challenger that took a lot less time that the Camaro to get in sales. So GM thought : we cant get ur new Camaro without knowing out this new rival! And as you know they told you he are going to take the Camaro on 2009 and all this Hybrid history. if they do the hybrid thing, forget the american pride, the buyers will think that GM is doing this to sell a new car, not to give the sellers what they want, they are going to impose us a car, THE car. The Challenger just got out of the factory, well it arrived to Canada 2 weeks ago

and is this moment they are improving a little more the Camaro. Because the last models were if we can say it, a fiasco, they dont want to do another error, they want something to please the people without lose more money

and other thing, the sellers on dealers dont know anything about the car, they are there to sell it, i know because i asked a Seller and told me there is doing to be only the Challengers RT in canada. What the h**l is this?? now, i know a guy that JUST BUYED the Challenger SRT8!!

  2. I asked a GM dealer... he "theorizes" (so take it as that and that only) that Chevy is holding off to see how the current musclecars (Mustang/Challenger/Charger, etc.) sell in spite of the gas crunch.

They're probably putting on the brakes on any musclecar development 'til they can offset the huge losses they're taking right now with truck/SUV sales dropping. Keep in mind, those are GM's "bread-and-butter" vehicles, as Asian makes kick the crud out of GM in sedan and economy car sales. GM/Ford/Chrysler are now scrambling to re-invent themselves as "fuel-efficient" lines. Not exactly good fodder for a musclecar's release.
