  1. I'm not sure a partial eclipse may be visible on the 1st of august

  2. Bit of a long wait, I'm afraid - the next total eclipse will be on August 22nd 2044. Times are 18:34:36 to 18:36:02 in Edmonton, or 18:38:52 to 18:40:42 in Calgary (you can get the exact time for your location at http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/JSEX/JSEX-N... by putting your latitude and longitude into the calculator). There's an animation showing the path of the eclipse here - http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEanimate/S... , and a Google Map showing the path of totality here - http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEgoogle/SE... . As you can see it covers most of Alberta.

  3. You'll have to wait a long time and/or do a bit of travelling.

In the August 2008 eclipse, the only totality in Canda will be in Nunavut.

In 2017, there will be a total eclipse in the USA, and the path of totality will run through Oregon, Idaho, and Wyoming (among other states; see link).  Most of the rest of North America will get a partial eclipse.  Unless you want to wait until 2044, that's probably your best bet.
