When will the salt that i put in my 20 gallon tank dissolved

i put it in today but i has not dissoled and the salt is instant ocean

  1. I think you're supposed to dissolve it in warm water before putting it in the tank.


  2. You are suposed to dissolve the salt in a bucket prior to adding to the tank.

    You can use a clean wooden spoon to swish the salts around the tank to help it to dissolve.

    When you finally get your fish and you are doing regular water changes, you need to use a 5 gallon bucked and mix your salt for the amount of water in the bucket.  I tend to start with about a gallon of really hot water to help the salt dissolve quicker then top off with cooler water.

    If you don't do this once you have fish, you subject your fish to salt burns (even though they are salt water fish)

    Can I suggest obtaining the reefkeepers guide as a good book to keep on hand.

  3. there are sometimes residue left over on the salt from when it reacted with moisture in the air..

    if the tank is full of water and you've added the salt but there are still some little clumps in the bottom it's nothing to worry about. just make sure your SG is withing a good range and continue setting up the tank
