When will the world understand that Dokdo belongs to Japan? ?

Koreans wear shirts saying Dokdo is their land. Why won't they just admit that it is part of Japan? When Japan took control over Joseon, all claims to ownership of Dokdo became null and void.

  1. If you want to illustrate your point you should call the islands Takeshima the Japanese name. Calling them Dokdo is saying they are Korean.

The key issue is not the islands but the fishing and resource rights to the waters around them. It will be a long time before anything is resolved and there is little concern from the rest of the world because they don't benefit from it.

  2. "When Japan took control over Joseon, all claims to ownership of Dokdo became null and void."

is not based on international law.  Claim to the island was given up by  Instruction #677.

I live in Japan and I think the island is Korean.

If Japan wants to be a permanent member of the UN it should show better judgement in arguing about it's borders.

The text book issue is using education as a political football and undermines Japanese education.  The chronology should be explained to Japanese kids and then they can decide for themselves.

  3. When the Japanese Imperialists lost control over Korea, every piece of land went back to Korea. So it is your point of view to see Dokdo as Japan's land but then you should be calling it takeshima instead.

  4. newsflash - most of the world doesn't give a toss about those rocks and who owns them

  5. the world wont give a sheet no more than the fork island debacle between britain and argentina. remember japan and korea are just two petty countries in the far east.
