When will we move to alternative fuels?

I know there's been a lot of talk about ethanol and biofuel these days...but that all seems to be reinventing gas. Will there ever be a day that cars wont require a pump just to operate. ie- electric or other ways of powering a car.

  1. I've been using WVO for a year.

  2. WHERE DO YOU GET THE ELECTRICITY to recharge electric cars?

If you say anything other than nuclear plants, you dont have a good understanding of just how much energy it takes to move 200,000,000 people....and the trucks that carry their food and the harvesters that grow it and the trucks that make business run so that everyone has a paycheck.....

switching gas/ethanol cars to electricity that comes form an oil/coal powered plant is a net loss as far as CO2 "savings" is concerned...

  3. Yes, electric cars are the transportation of the future.  Affordable long-range high-speed EVs will be available starting in about a year.

Available in California in October 2008, the Aptera typ-1e will cost about $27,000 with a top speed of 95 mph and range of 120 miles per charge.

Soon thereafter Aptera will introduce the typ-1h, a plug-in hybrid version of the typ-1e with a 40-60 mile range on purely electrical energy, and a range of over 600 miles total when in electric/gas hybrid mode, for around $30,000.  On a 120 mile trip, the typ-1h will get 300 miles per gallon.  The shorter the trip, the higher the efficiency.
