We currently only recieve 1080i as the Full HD Signal for DTV & Sattelite / Cable.

When will we see 1080p?!? (Other than BlueRay & XBOX 360/PS3)

What kind of Bandwidth would be Required for 1080p?!?

6 MHz ?!?

And Help me Fill in these Blanks:

Resolution Bandwidth Required (MPEG-2 DTV)

480i 1MHz

480p 2MHz (Is this Right?!?)

720p _MHz

1080i _MHz (Is it 3 MHz?!?)

1080p _MHz (Is it 6 MHz?!?)

  1. not until everyone have HDTV in their house!

  2. There are absolutely no plans for TV to go beyond 1080i. From your own numbers, which are basically correct, you can see that 1080P uses twice the bandwidth of 1080i.

After s-pending the Billions they already have, the industry has no interest in doubling their capacity so they can carry a signal that only those with sets larger than 50" can gain from, marginally at that.

Keep in mind that the bandwidth required is a function of the degree of compression of the signal, and the nature of that signal.

720P generally requires a 3MHz bandwidth-the same as 1080i, which is why stations can choose whichever they prefer, of the two.
