See the headline:

Women forced to drive in remote villages

See the snip:

SHAROURAH – Certain social and economic circumstances in some remote areas have forced women to drive cars ignoring the ban on such driving.

Carrying out life’s necessary chores using a car is a normal practice in many villages in Empty Quarter. Women drive pick-up trucks to carry fodder and goods; some women even have been driving seen water tank trucks, Al-Madina reported on Friday. It is not surprising to find a woman driving a car with her firearm next to her to tackle any emergency situation.

Muhammad Omar, one of the natives of the region said. Women driving in the Empty Quarter is not frowned upon, Muhammad Omar, a resident here said. “It helps in finishing daily chores due to the absence of the family head or his disability,” he said.

  1. I condemn this act.

  2. I don't know about that Wolf...it was my experience from talking to actual Saudi women that most hope they can drive. It was aconstant topic of conversation at the women's gym, and not one raised by Westerners. Every year there seems to be a rumor repeated that this will be the year....Several of the Saudi women even talked about being able to drive in neighboring Jordan and Abu Dabi...so to say they don't want it is a mistake I think.

  3. :)

  4. .......I think the govt. will not force women to drive in the cities......not just yet......esp. women driving alone.....its risky esp. to the greedy eyes of men who havent seen ladies for years.......lolz

  5. Not all Saudi women want to drive.  In fact the majority of Saudi women DON'T want to drive. It's only a handful of Western influenced Muslimahs who want to drive in Saudi Arabia.

  6. FORCE???You don't need force ..People need to act

People must Stop recruiting drivers  for houses  ..The  government will  then be pushed to act .. Allow  ladies to work where men are ..

  7. I absolutely hate the traffic situation here in Saudi.. that would be the only deciding force on whether or not I drive if allowed.. They will have to crack down on the traffic rules 200% prior..
