You need passports NOW to FLY to and from Mexico.  You will not need passports to travel to and from Mexico by LAND or SEA until after SUMMER 2008.  See website below and read top half of the page carefully to see the current announcement.  Another announcement about the date will be made before summer 2008.

well you already need a passport if you're traveling by air, but if your traveling by land you will need your passport by jan. 23 2008
