When wiring your sub to the amp?

Does it make a difference if the wires going to the amp from the sub are very long or very short.

For sub and amp it usually doesn't make a difference because of the relatively close proximity they are usually mounted to each other. If travelling far distances with the wires from the amp you may want to relocate the amp closer to the sub or use heavier gauge wire to compensate for signal loss over the distance.

for average amp and sub installs that length will insignificant! just be sure to beef up the gauge of wire to compensate for signal loss if travelling a long distance with the wire.
