When working out is it better to run before you weight train or run after you weight train?

I have been running before I lift weights. I read that if you run after you lift weights you burn more fat. Is it better to run after you lift or before you lift. Or is it better to run before and after you lift.

  1. You generally want to do the things first that are in-line with your current goals.  For example, if you are primarily interested in losing weight then I'd run and then lift weights.  If you are primarily trying to build muscle, I'd lift first.  You'll have more energy early in the workout to apply to the activities that are paramount to you goals.

    Also, a little variety is also a good thing with training.  It'll keep you mentally fresh.  There really is no one way or one single "best" order to do things.  Switch it up sometimes, even if just for fun.

  2. Depends on your goals.  I like to lift first, then do cardio.  Because you will not be able to lift as well since you've burned off all your glucose by running first, and you won't build as much muscle.  But if you're looking to keep burning fat, then run then lift.

  3. its actually better to do neither

    u should lift... go home.... then eat protein and stuff..... then run like an hour later..... then u can go back and lift more if u do double days

    but if u want to do it all in one time it all depends on rather u want to get stronger or get better cardio

    stronger= lift first

    cardio/ get in shape= run before and after

  4. yeah do weight training first. im not an expert but i heard that if you're trying to grow muscles, you should do cardio first, but if you're trying to lose weight, do weight first. you'd be able to lift better when you have more energy. like you said lifting boosts metablism before you run which leads to burn more fat :)
