This winter will be my second year snowboarding...last year I rented a snowboard and i'm just wondering what it would cost to buy a used snowboard. Like i've heard that around September or October a lot of snowboard shops have sales on used snowboards and stuff. So i'm just wondering what a decent board will cost.

Thanks

  1. Check out our site for some cheap boards. they are all 50% off and ship for free in the US. Boards you might want to look at are the Palmer P-Line, Forum Recon, and Burton Clash... all of which are selling new for $150. When you buy something used you generally do not get what is right for you.

  2. I wouldnt buy anything used. It isnt worth it. It will end up just falling apart if your doing terrain.

The first thing that you have to do is decide what kind of riding you are going to be doing. There are different kinds of boards like park boards, mountoun boards, and boards that are good at park and mountain.

The seond thing you have to do is check your foot size. If it is bigger than a size 10 you will have to buy a wide snowboard or your feet will touch the snow when you carve.

If your going to buy just a board it will cost somewere in the range from 100 a crappy board to 400 a good board.

What you should do is buy a package that comes with the board and bindings. They can go anywere from 250-700. if you buy a package at your local snowboard shop they might give you a discount on boots that could cost anywere form 70-200.

At local snowboard shops they might also have brand new boards that are from last year that just never sold. They will have to get rid of them so they will sell them for cheap but there is nothing wrong with them.

You could also buy a board online. There are some good sites out there like the-house.com. They have a lot of good discount snowboards for cheap.

    Good luck buying your board.

  3. Actually right now most shops are having sales, with around 40%-50% off of last years gear new.  You could probably get a good board on sale new for about $200-$250, boots for about $100, and bindings for somewhere around $100-$150.  I don't really know about used stuff because it depends on the shop.  You could probably get a decent used board for around $150.  craigslist.org might have something used someone wants to get rid of.

  4. honestly pat knows exactly what he is saying, but if your really just someone who has only gone a few times you would be wasting your money on good stuff. my first year i found a 150 dollar setup of a decent beginner board, some nice drake bindings, and some dc boots. for the first year or two its really all you need. the main reason you dont want good stuff is because how quickly it gets thrashed. if find real steal on craigslist, you can even make money when your ready to step it up..(it can happen lol, it happened to me.)

i still have never bought a used board, found a burton royale in good shape, a year old, for only 100 instead of the 400 dollar retail.

so really alls im sayin, and im saying this from experience, is that you will save money by getting cheap used equipment, then upgrading next year when you have at least 20-30 sessions under your belt...

if you still plan on buying new, october is too late...best bet is to buy at the end of the season, and watch this site from december to march. they offer 1 product at a time, for 50-90% off. they have had, for example, a burton vapor on there for 249.99$. since i found it i buy almost all of my gear there..

1 more point, especially if you are trying to improve in the park............................. dont throw your money away and by new stuff that will be no good by the end of the year. the park is were 90% of your damage will come if your still learning

  5. Hi there - October is too late to get snow gear - usually merchants sell the old season models cheeper in August and September, you can even find good deals now. That is because the new stuff comes about this time - everybody is going crazy to get this year's model snowboard signed by Shawn White... Anyway, most of addicted do. If you don't care about how "fashion" you are now it is the time to get all the gear.

As of what kind of gear do you need - it is all about the money. Nothing is better than the new one. If you have enough money go and get new gear.

There is a lot of places you can visit for snow sports gear, but if you prefer used snow equipment than I suggest these sites:

http://galacticsnowsports.com - these guys have the sweetest prices ever! Never seen deal like $30 for used skis or used snowboard. I strongly recommend this site.

http://craigslist.org - it is good that you have the chance to "touch" what you buy, but there is no "return" - even if the snowboard is broken.

http://ebay.com - be very careful about seller's return policy. Buy only with sellers with high rating (99% and up) and good feedback (at least 10,000) My personal opinion is: buy from ebay only when there is no choice.

I suggest you buy some cheap used snowboard about $60-$80 until you really learn snowboarding (1 season is not enough) - your snowboard will be pretty beaten up in your second season, that's for sure. You will still pay more attention to learn riding than keeping you snowboard safe.

Good luck and have a good time!

  6. Well it depends on how often you go. If your gonna go every week your gonna wanna buy a new snowboard. But if your just gonna go maybe twice a year, then go used. Some shops sell their new snowboards really cheap right now since its not winter yet. But some people on craigs list sell some snowboards for like $20 and it comes with boots and bindings sometimes. But i will admit, some of the bindings are like ancient. But there are some pretty good deals out there.
