When would you say the first day of a womans period starts?

Does it start on the days that I get an old brown mucas discharge or does it start on the day I see blood. My periods last 7 days from start to finish. I have to children already and want a 3rd. We are trying for a boy and you have to make love 14 days from the first day of your period. (ovulation) So do I count day one as seeing the old brown mucus blood or when I see red blood?

Thanks for your answers.

  1. its after the brown mucus when you have s*x a week later

  2. Cycle day 1 is the first day of full red flow.  Spotting does NOT count.

    Good luck to you!

  3. I am actually glad you asked this! I am not TTC, but after having my children I get that same thing...only from start (the brown stuff) to finish, it's 10 days long. Ugh.

  4. The first day of 'full flow' is CD1. You should ignore the spotting for the purposes of charting. My RE told me this last month; I get premenstrual spotting too!

Be sure to BD starting 19 days before your next period until 12 days before your next period. That's your 'fertile window'.
