I am in the process of registering for a fictitious name and know that in order to open a bank account with it i have to have the documents. My question is, when a client writes out a check to me, will they have to write out the entire name (ex: if my FN was The best photos photography (dont worry, it isnt) would they have to write out the entire thing or will the bank accept "the best photos" on the check? Thanks!

  1. Greetings,

I used to deposit checks that were signed to my business name, part of my business name and to my name.

It should not be a problem unless you have a large deposit. Your bank may ask questions then to avoid any issues with the signer's institute.

    Good Luck...

  2. The bank should accept it. The best thing to do is buy a stamp and stamp your business name on the check.

  3. When my husband and I started our own business and we set up a checking/savings/loan account with the bank we wrote down a list of acceptable names that the bank would honor if people shortened the name of our business.   You might want to do the same.   If your business is called Shot in the dark photography you might list that the bank would accept, shot in the dark, or dark photography, or In the dark photography  or Shot photography.    As you list these titles the bank will accept what you have listed.  At least that is how we set ours up.

    Hope that helps.
