When writing a letter on Yahoo, sometimes the slash key or quotations trigger a search window. Why is this?

The quotation marks, and slash key, trigger a new window to open at the bottom of the screen. When this happens, the directional arrow keys do not work either. Does anyone know why this happens, with those keys, and how to disable it?
