  1. If you ever attend a real class and an instructor is watching you, they make you do it correctly. Why not take the time to learn the strokes correctly so you won't have to re-learn in the future.

  2. Yes, the stroke order seriously matters.  When you become more proficient at writing, you'll start to write in cursive, which in Chinese means that some of the strokes run together and flow.  If you don't use the correct stroke order, the characters will not look right and absolutely everyone will laugh at you.

  3. yes, of course it does! if you are going to learn a language you may as well learn it properly.  i mean, when you write in English, do you write from right to left or choose to write the vertical letters before the round ones?

also, you can tell whether your strokes are going in the correct direction.  in the olden days, they used brushes and so one end of the stroke would be thicker than the other. these days, we use pen, but if your strokes are back to front, it still looks funny.  And later on, when you get good at it, the strokes may blend together (a bit like our running writing) and it will look even more strange if you strokes are all over the place!

  4. Yes,it matters. If you stick to follow a set of instructions for each stroke in order, you will become more proficient at writing and even write in cursive. This means that you really learn Chinese and reached a very high level.

  5. Yes it matters. You write your strokes from top to bottom and left to right, though with many  exceptions. There are books which number the strokes to show you in what order they are done. Once you get the hang of it, you can apply the rules to unfamiliar characters without a stroke guide.
