When year is the £400 4X4 car tax increase going to actually happen?

I have seen various questions about the car tax increase for the 4X4's but when is this likely to come into effect? 2008, 2009?

There is no specific 4x4 tax in the UK.

The tax you are referring to applies to all cars first registered after a certain date that have official CO2 emissions greater than a certain amount.

The £400 rate applies now to all cars (except alternative fuel cars) first registered on or after 23rd March 2006 with official CO2 emissions greater than 225g/km.

From next April the bands and rates change, and all rates will apply to all cars first registered on or after 1st March 2001.

AFAIK it is due to take effect in 2010.  That's if anyone actually buys a new car in the tax bracket at that time.
