why is it so hard to forgive yourself for letting that happen to you?

It is that "Slap on the head" - GOD I AM SO STUPID feel.

I find that it's easier to forgive yourself when the perspective is readjusted to, life is a learning process and that situation was a great lesson that I will take with me.

"Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me"

Try getting Bush to say that properly.

not sure how to answer this but the best thing i would do is learn from this problem and not to "trip over the same stone".dont repeat the same mistakes and let people use you
