Ok, i've posted a few questions on here in the last couple of days. One was with a pic. of the new kitty we are going to adopt today! In her ears you could see little black things. My question was could those be mites. I got a lot of "yes, quite possible they could be." My next question is, if your adopting a kitty, and obviously paying an adoption fee. Shouldnt you expect your kitty to be free and clear of fleas and mites. She's at a foster home now, so i just assumed that all of her needs were addressed. This is our first time adopting a kitten so i could very well be wrong. I know she's is up to date on her flea treatment. Are mites easily taken care of with a quick trip to the vet? and do they stay on the kittie or wonder off. I know im asking a lot of questions. but like i said this is our first kitty and i believe the more info i can get the happier I can make her. Thank you!

  1. since she is in a foster home i am not totally surprised she has ear mites. when a kitten or dog or whatever animal is fostered, it is up to the foster family to make sure the shelter knows any medical problems and whatnot their foster baby has. maybe the shelter did not know about the mites, because if they did most shelters would treat it and take care of it. mention it to them, they might be able to give you something for her and/or show you how to clean her ears. ear mites are not that big of a deal if taken care of. if they are unwilling to help you take her to the vet and they will give you something for her. good luck and congrats on adopting!

  2. Free of earmites, yes , if you are dealing with a rescue group that is registered and reputable I would insist the kitten is seen by a vet.  I just took 4 as fosters yesterday and had them treated for mites.  Left untreated they can cause big problems even hearing loss.  If the mites are really bad the vet will do an ear wash.   Express your concern to the foster mom before you pick up the kitten.

Fleas,, if she has a lot of kittens some may have not been treated yet.  Ask her about this as well.

  3. I am not sure i know the exact answer but I would ask the people you are adopting it from. Take it to the vet just in case. Hope this helps!

  4.    i want you to know that a older cat wont get another chance and i wont answer this! >=(

  5. Ear mites are extremely irritating and can cause ear infections if not treated appropriately. They can also be spread to other pets. The best thing you can do is take her to a vet and get the appropriate medicine to treat her. Some foster homes do not offer medical care for the animals they take in. Check with them first and see if something can be worked out. Good luck!
