Question:

When you are breeding bettas, can you have rocks in the tank? or will the eggs get stuck?

I am going to be breeding betta fish and i have been doing so much research. but that question was always in my head. so can i have rocks in there?

  1. No rocks for the reason above by first answerer, however you should place a small terracotta pot or similar item for the female to hide until ready for the next big squeeze.


  2. I wouldnt. This is because it is better if the tank is bare bottomed (nothing on the bottom) so the eggs can be picked up by the male and put into the nest.It is easier for him to see the eggs that have fallen.

  3. The breeding tank should be bare bottomed with no gravel for several reasons.

    1) The eggs can fall in between the gravel and die

    2) Newborn fry can fall in between the gravel and die

    3) Bare bottom means dad can see and retrive wayward fry and eggs faster and easier

  4. No when i breed my Betta's i have no rocks at the bottom the eggs will be harder for the male to find or they will damage the eggs.
