  1. I think a little bit of both.

Asking a question shows your insight and you do like those useless stars that they give you :)

  2. Sometimes I know the answer or have my own opinion of the answer, but like to see what a "devil's advocate" would say. Other times I don't know and surprisingly Google doesn't show any reference to it.

  3. either i'm looking for the answer for myself, or asking a question that will help someone else find an answer.

i think an answer without a question is a memory. but an answer that comes from a question is knowledge.

so if you just say something to somebody they can either believe you or not.

but if you ask them the right questions and they find the answers for themselves, then they are not met with the decision of whether or not to believe you, they have discovered knowledge.

but i don't say things or do things with the goal of appearance.

that would often backfire anyways because if you say something to try and look smart you usually don't achieve looking smart, you achieve looking like someone who is saying something so that people think they look smart, which i find is undesirable.

  4. wow good question

  5. I already know the answer when I ask a question

  6. If I asked a question, I'm looking for confirmation. Nine times out of ten, it is a genuine question. But mostly, I've already thought of the answer. It is the complications of the answer that I'm trying to avoid.

So therefore, I ask it to, perhaps, convince myself that there are other options. A shortcut, maybe?

  7. may not be if your question is what is called rhetorical

  8. I am genuinely looking for the answer because I have researched it myself and either didn't understand or couldn't find the answer on my own.  Besides, sometimes people are experts in a particular field or on a particular topic and may be able to give me tips and techniques or little known aspects about what I'm asking about.
