When you buy a car from someone..What all do you have to do..Not from a dealer but just a seller...?

Make sure the seller has the title...you will need to go to the notary to have the title transferred to you. while you are there you will have to pay state taxes on the car and also pay for the license plate. You will get the new title in the mail....also if the seller is nice he will say you paid less than you really did so the tax bill will be lower.

Different states have different laws. In Iowa they sign the title over to you and you take it and the registration to the DMV and get it put in your name. You pay the taxes and license and they give you the plates on the spot. No notary involved. Call the DMV in your state and they will tell you.
