  1. If you buy the ring from a real jewelry store they will be in a larger size and then you just return with the ring and the girls hand to be sized and they send it off to be sized for free.  Most people have no clue what size the girl will need before they propse to her.  If you need it resized later it depends on the store.  Some rings..mostly guys are not always able to be resized.  My husbands ring is a comfort fit and its so comfy and rolled in the inside but the bad thing is its not able to be resized and doesn't fit him now :(

When they do resize the riong they cut out the middle bottom so it depends on how small you need to make it after you buy it but i'd just make a not when I buy it and see if they can secretly engrave it when you go to have it resized..this way shes still surprised..it will be a hiddened surprise :)

  2. Wedding bands don't need to be a secret. Take her with you to get it sized. If you are buying it online, find out how to size her finger to get it right. A little big is better than too small as inserts can be added to a too big ring.  As far as engraving, that I don't have the answer to.

  3. resizing depends on what the band is made of -- gold, no problem; silver can't be resized (i don't know about platinum).

If it's a wedding band she can try it on, there's no rule about her seeing it before the ceremony, and you certainly want to make sure it looks great with her engagement ring.  If it's an engagement ring you want to buy, find out her shoe size.  For some reason, the ring finger and shoe size seem to be about the same...

I don't know about engraving.  I wouldn't chance having to have it resized if it was engraved.

  4. Most wedding bands are fairly simple in design and are able to be sized.  However, you should wait until the ring has been sized before doing any engraving as they need to heat up the metal to size it and it might affect the engraving.

The only rings that wouldn't be able to be sized would be if you got one of those wedding bands that has diamonds all around as it would affect the spacing of the diamonds.

Also if you have one of her current rings, you can certainly bring it with you and have them size it for you.
