I want to buy some bigger tires for my xterra, but if I am going to be spending extra on the tires, I don't want to be paying $100 more if I can do it by myself...thanks

  1. They say it's free but it's figured into the price. Also if you do it your self they need to be ballanced or they will wear right out.

  2. it really isn't something you want to do your self.  the tires MUST BE electronically balanced individually or the the car/truck will shimmy and shake at speeds over 60 and will wear the tires out sooner. it's not a job for someone who doesn't have the machine. get new stems also.

it's worth the extra money.    mounting has always been free, however balancing and stems are always extra.  some tire dealers will also rotate tires for free every 5,000 miles. ask your dealer if he's offering that service.

    good luck to ya

  3. It should be free for them to mount your tires if you get the tires from them. if you bring your own tires it usually costs about $10 per tire thats for removing old tire from rim placing new tire on rim balancing the new tire and mounting it on your car. hope this helps

  4. No you can not mount and balance tires by yourself.  My shop has two tire mounting machines, each of which cost several thousand dollars each and two tire balancers with similar price tags.  You can not safely dismount or mount tires without such equipment.  If a shop wants to charge $15-20 each for the labor and equipment to mount up your tires it is well worth it.

  5. It is noramlly $20 a tire for the new valve stem, mounting them to the rim, balancing them, and installing them on the truck.

If you have a mounting machine and a balancer then go for it.
