I was thinking about becoming a caddie, but im a little nervous. When you caddie, does the player just go to his bag and pick the club he/she wants to use or do you have to know like at this certain spot he should use a 5 iron or something, or he/she just give you the club back and then just pick a different club himself?

  1. well the player can have a pretty good idea on what they want. but they will ask the daddie for there oppinion.

  2. Much of the selection depends on the caliber of player as well as the caliber of caddy. The pros on TV have the caddy set the clubs a distance from the ball so the player may make his selection. Some confer with the caddy. Others pick their club with out consulting the caddy. The player does expect to receive the exact yardage from the caddy. Combine that with wind direction, moisture, pin position and hazards and the club is selected. Tiger Woods and Steve Williams make up the best consulting pair on the tour. Williams has charted the course and the rolls on the greens. Tiger has done the same in his practice rounds and both are aware of what has to be done.

  3. Caddying eh?

First off dont talk too much unless the person talks to you...(other than the jibjab of nice shot, great putt, etc.)

Also, do not suggest a club for someone you dont know how far they hit it...you may suggest that they hit their 160 club, 210 club, etc. etc. due to hazards, uphill-downhill, etc.

Read the putt, but do not give them advice unless it is asked for.

AND MOST OF ALL IF YOURE NOT SURE OF SOMETHING WHEN THEY ASK...DONT TELL THEM!!!

dont be nervous, its great exercise!!

  4. The player will either ask the caddy for the specific club or ask what the caddy would suggest the player use. Either way, it is the caddy who will pull the club from the bag (most times) and replace it once used.

  5. It really depends on the golfer.  If you follow the PGA on TV for example, some caddies do little more than carry the bag and give the golfer yardages.  Others, like Tiger's caddie (forget his name) are very involved in club selection.
