  1. your umbilical cord is attached to the placenta. the placenta is attached to the uterine wall and is the "feeding system" for the baby while you are pregnant. after your birth, you will have a few more contractions and will expel the placenta and remaining umbilical cord and it will be discarded.

  2. you dont cut off your umbilical chord. The chord is cut by either the father of the baby or the medical staff after the baby is born.. The baby will have a stump on their tummy for a while which will dry up and fall off creating a 'belly button". The other part of the umbilical chord is delivered with the placenta after the baby. The medical staff check the placenta and chord to add any detials to the birth notes and then they dispose of it unless the parents expressly wish to keep it.

  3. The part that is attached to the mom is delivered with the placenta.  The part that is attached to the baby will dry up in a few weeks and fall off.

  4. They usually dispose of it, otherwise, unless your donating it for blood cord, and some weirdos actually keep it to grow in the garden (Jonny Depp), and Eat it (Tom Cruise)....nasty!!

  5. They put it in the trash.  Hazardous waste at the hospital.

  6. You can donate it to a cord blood institute.  But usually the hospital throws it away.
