When you do your Spring Cleaning, do you get rid of things you haven't used for a year or more?

I am like a pack rat, and save my magazines and stuff like that. Should I go ahead and throw them away? I never go back and look at them! What do you think? What kinds of things do you throw away? Or give to Goodwill?

  1. It depends, sometimes I keep some staff for longer incase I may need it again.

  2. I don't have spring cleaning, as I clean the entire house every Friday, no matter what, unless out of town, house gets done every Friday..

and no I never get rid of anything, see the proof is I have kept my hubby for 39 years July 1st so that's proof I never throw anything away. ha ha.....really it does not seem like 39 yrs

  3. Definately get rid of magazines or they will take over!!!  I think you can donate them to goodwill.  Some people say to throw out all clothes that you haven't worn in a year...I don't do that, but I do re-evaluate my clothes.  Try them all on, and what doesn't fit or I no longer like, I send to goodwill.  Actually, I do this a bunch...much more often than once a yr!

I have a problem with holding on to old candle jars!  I'll be taking these to goodwill soon.

Just think how happy you'll be when the clutter is gone!  If you're not using it, bless someone else, and in the process you'll be blessing yourself!

    Good Luck!

  4. I throw a lot of stuff away. I tear out recipes and articles that I want to keep and either donate the magazines to a school for art projects (if the pictures and article content are suitable for young children) or I throw them away or recycle what I can. I get rid of all old bills and credit card statements that are over a year old, otherwise they are filed in one of those accordion portfolio files. Clothes, shoes, unused makeup, toys (from kids) and unused small appliances are either donated to goodwill, given to friends/family, or we have a garage sale. The article below gives some good tips for organization along with maximizing efficiency. If it doesn't work when you click on it, copy and paste it to your address bar at the top of your screen. Good luck!!!!

  5. I use to keep everything.  Now I don't.  If you don't use it get rid of it.  Sounds like you need to do a fling boogie.  Check out flylady.net

  6. I throw away the minute I am done!  It is so important to keep it that way for me as it makes me nuts. My biggest problem is my closet, I know the rule is when you buy something you should throw out the oldest thing you dont wear but I dont.  So I usually do it every season.  I love love love a clutter free home.

  7. Still working on middle daughter's room and have three garbage bags full of clothes to take to Goodwill.  They appreciate it.  I threw things away that she probably would not appreciate it, but she will never miss them.  I am not a pack rat so I can't relate. I throw away everything. Some times I put a cardboard box out on the sidewalk full of books I've read, with a FREE sign on them.

  8. Recycle the magazines. Anything else gets sold on a garage sale, taken to a consignment shop or given to Goodwill.

  9. Don't keep old magazines, they can even be a fire hazard if you have too many stored.  Don't keep anything that is broken, if you didn't get it mended straight away you never will.  Clothes (unless it is something like a nice ballgown or thick winter coat) you have not worn for 2 years should go to the charity shop.  Clothes that you really don't feel good in should go there too.  Odd bits and pieces of china (unless they are beautiful enough to go on show) should go too.  You will feel better for it and find you have so much more storage which will enable you to keep all your things neatly.

  10. I have a pretty simple rule “If it needs to live in a closet, it doesn’t need to live in my house!”  If you don’t need it, toss or donate it.

  11. I try to keep the rule that if it hasn't been touched in six months it is to be disposed of.
