When you download things in the sims 2 for pc how do you activate them so it can work in the game?

its my first time every downloading anything in the sims but its so confusing i don't know how to make them work in the game lol.

first of al go  to my documents and then to ea games  and finally  to  sims 2  

make a new folder in the sims 2 folder  and  name it Downloads  with a capital d  if its not already there

unpack  your  custom content with  winrar or winzip or similair and  drag it\place it in the donwloads folder

thats it  your done

note :  in the base game and university   you  have to  drag the contents from the  unpacked folders to the download folder the sims 2 and  university cant read sub folders

in anything from  nightlife and up  you  can leave them in their  unpacked folders and just drag the folders to downloads  

nightlife and up  CAN  read subfolders

OK, first off you'll have to make a folder within your Sims 2 game folder named 'Downloads'. Then download an extractor like WinRar (http://www.rarlab.com/). Also I suggest making a dummy folder on your Desktop to put downloads in before putting them into the actual 'Downloads' folder.

1. Download the content you want into your dummy folder. Make sure you get the meshes if it's an original creation. Most creators either include it or link to where it can be found. Also download the Color Enabler Package. Most sites have a link to it. This allows you to use recolors of already existing in game content.

2. After downloading, either unzip it if it's in .zip form or use WinRar to extract the files.

3. Cut and paste the unzipped or extracted files (not with the ones you downloaded) into the 'Downloads' folder. You can now delete the original files you downloaded.

4. Repeat as many times you want with all the content you want.

* I suggest making sub folders in your 'Downloads' folder with categories like 'wallpaper', 'clothing', hair. etc since it can get really confusing as you add more content. You can have up to 250 sub folders.

There are many websites you can download sims stuff from. (i.e. thesimsresource.com, modthesims2.com, etc.)  For thesimsresource.com, all you have to do is register, type in the search box (i.e. harry potter lots), then find which one (s) you want. Press the first button (should be a person in a blue box, i believe).  it will download it.  If I were you, i would subscribe, that way you would be able to get more stuff!   If you want to download something that needs a mesh, press the button with the green arrow (pointing down)

For modthesims2.com, register, type in the seacrch box (i.e. jonas brothers) and go to the bottom of the page and press download.
