When you feel someone is looking at you, how can you tell without actually look at them?

LOL Is our instinct correct? Did you even see (using side/peripheral vision) that someone was looking your way and it looked like they were looking at you and when you looked at him/her, he/she was looking your direction but not at you?

Is our instinct correct when we think that person is looking at us?

(I have a crush and don't want to look--but it seems like he's looking at me and I don't want to go look at him to check.)
