  1. yes they do...just like we like everyone to speak american english when coming here to the U.S.

  2. no.  mexican customs probably wont even talk to you.  they give you a form to fill out (tourist visa).  they might say good morning, but there isnt much for them to talk about. just imagine all the spring breakers who go to mexico every year.  if mexican customs made them talk in spanish, no one would even go.  so just relax, it's all good

  3. Yes. This the United States is the only country  where our language is set aside for foreigners. English as a second language. Ever hear that one?

  4. No, the officials working customs speak English.  They are fluent.  I've arrived at a couple different airports in Mexico and was able to speak English with customs and the airline workers.

  5. No, not at all. No more than American customs official expect you to converse in English. Usually there is no conversation. One simply does as the customs officials say if one wishes to avoid problems. If the official does not speak your language and there is a need for more than simple, basic communication they will find someone who speaks your language.

  6. si!

  7. Actually, in the busier areas they will know English and will expect you to not know Spanish.  This is especially true at the Mexico City airport and the larger border crossings where tourists are seen frequently.

If you do know Spanish, use it and you will have a very easy time of things.  If not, have no fear, just be polite and an English speaker will be found for you if it is needed.

You may also find that they will not speak to you at all!  Drive up to the inspection areas and you will see a traffic light.  If it is green, drive through and you won't see anyone or have to speak at all.  If it hits red, you may have to talk to someone.

These guys are pretty mellow overall.  If you have no contraband you will have no problems.  Good luck & have fun.

  8. No, they should know English and they will speak to you in English oh and they treat better tourists that natives.

  9. no. we went to Mexico and did not have to speak in Spanish to customs. It was not a problem

  10. Why wouldn't they?  THEIR official language is Spanish.  Guess who cares what your mother tounge is?  NOBODY!
