  1. Well, I can't pinpoint exactly how long it took me.  (4-6 months).  It wasn't until I ran my first organized run/race and had the medal around my neck doing my first 1/2 marathon.  I was hooked for running.  I have medals/ribbons hanging on my mirror to remind me how far I've come.  From walking to now running 42.2K marathons.

It started out to be health reasons, overweight, chest pains, smoker and out of shape...now 45lbs lighter, more fit, non-smoker and run for the passion of it.  I never thought it come to this, but I love running now...and cycling, swimming, yoga, dragonboating, kayaking, hiking, etc.  And I have a passion to help others reach that goal too.  Been at it for 7 years...

Run Happy and train smart :)

  2. i did it way back a few years ago in 7th grade, after previously never doing any exercise i did the mile in 11 minutes and 30 seconds haha. IT sucked i was dead tired the next day , and until my leg muscles started developing i was in pain. But it is worth it , from having scrawny legs to beign muscular is great! and i feel better about  myself now.

haha now started junior year. i run the mile in just under 6 minutes. talk about a change of seasons. lol

anyway the results are well worth it, good luck!

  3. when i was in 6th grade i loved sprinting barefoot in the evening on my street.

now i'm entering highschool and i'm running  to train myself to get faster. i still love it. i guess i'm lucky that something i love happens to be good for my health!

for people who run b/c they need to lose weight... well running is a chore for them. but once they see how good of a drug it is they get hooked. it might take out of shape peopel a few weeks to a few months.

  4. I never liked running, I informally started in the 3rd grade, and I still don't like running.

    I like racing :).

  5. For me, instantly... but I don't think I'm normal.

  6. uh..never

  7. i think that i started to like running because it was good for my health!

  8. I started running in high school for the cross country team. My sole reason for joining was to be able to opt out of gym class, because I have no desire for contact sports (which was all gym class did).

I never liked it. The coach was always on me because I wasn't putting my heart and soul into running; I had other things that were important to me.

Now, though, I enjoy it. I don't run to compete. I don't run for health benefits. I don't "love it" to get out and do it.

I run because it's therapeutic for me. To quote Legally Blonde (movie, not the musical or book): "Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't shoot their husbands, they just don't. "

Running is one of the few things that makes my mind blank. I stop thinking about everything. I stop worrying. There are no bills to try to pay. There is no personal life issues nagging me. My mind just stops.

So, I don't run because I love running. I run because I love the state it puts me in.

  9. Sorry, but it never really did.  I only run for the health benefits unfortunately.

  10. Not very long. I started a few years ago just because my Track coach pretty much made me join cross country. She gave the summer workout plan and after a few weeks I fell in love with it. I can say now that I run daily and feel crappy and lazy if i don't.

  11. i started running like in 8th grade but wasnt much good at it. then when i started high school i wanted to join a sport and didnt know what to join and I was very overweight. my friends sister recomended that i join crosscountry, so i did. at first i didnt really like it but as each year passed by i showed major impovment in my times and running form and lost a great ammount of weight. Now i am a senior in high school and running has become a major part of my life. when i started freshmeen year it took me all the way to junior year to really love running, now all i enjoy doing is runnig no matter what time of day it is or what type of weather
