Do you get more then just the relief, like some people have told me they give you something else with it to make you feel good and relax you. Is this true, and if it is, what is it that they give you?

  1. I not a woman but i got shot in the leg when i was younger. they gave me a spinal block but it's the same thing as an epidural. they gave me a local first and then the epidural. I felt the scalpel cutting into my leg but didn't feel any pain until after the epidural wore off. it was the most pain i ever experienced. i suppose if you need it they would give something for anxiety.

  2. Not feeling the contractions is pretty d**n relaxing enough, after you were screaming in pain and agonyl, and then they prick you and you look at the monitor amazed that you are having a contraction...you're pretty realxed...and feel pretty good!!!!

I took the epidural at 8cms.

After being induced at 4cm with pitocin.

  3. the anesithist inserts a large needle into your spine and this is attached to a syringe with the epidural in it. it numbs your back down to your toes and the contractions just feel like pressure rather than sharp pain. its fantastic pain relief and nothing else is needed with it

  4. no its just the epidural and it numbs u its great u dont feel nuttin but pressure

  5. I didn't...I know there is a thing called Nubain that kind of puts you out of it...I don't know if you can get that plus the epidural though...

  6. I didn't get anything prior.  They stuck the needle in and then the doc had to leave for a emergency.  I got a small shot of pain killer in my epidural i.v to hold me over cause the nurse felt bad for me.

  7. Do you really want a needle inserted into your spine?

  8. A few hours before I got my epidural they gave me some kind of pain/relaxation medication through my IV...couldn't tell you what it was. But I wasn't dilated enough for an epidural and demanded something lol. I don't know about during the epidural though. Once you get the epidural and the pain is gone, you will relax plenty simply from that.

  9. I was given stadol (sp?) to relax me because I was freaking out.  It relaxed me a ton.  They will most likely numb the spot where they insert the epi as well.

  10. I don't remember getting anything else with it. But mine offered lots of relief. I actually slept for a while and then it was time to push. While pushing all I could feel was pressure.
