  3. not usually, years before I got braces I had that surgery just because I needed it, and my friends with braces didn't need it for theirs either.

  4. The thing under your top lip is called a frenulum. (That is also what that thin skin connecting your tongue under your mouth to your soft tissue of the palate is.)

    Regular orthodontic treatment would not have any need to cut it.. I did, however, have mine cut as I didnt get braces until I was in my 20's and required a surgery to enlarge my palate.
