  1. A few states require a license, but it's a license issued by the COAST GUARD and it's not a DRIVER'S LICENSE... in those areas where a license is required... it's a BOATERS LICENSE... there are people who lose their driver's licenses and still operate a boat.

  2. YES

  3. You win dude, you dont need a "boaters license" in USA. Any idiot can operate a boat in America and endanger everyone else on the water. Read the newspapers every summer if you want proof.

  4. IF the boat is registered in Fla  OR the owner is a resident of FLA then you must have a FLA license.  Im not sure about personal watercraft...

I do know that I dont need a license to travel to and around In Fla waters.  My boat (less than 100 tons) and not for hire,  does not even need documentation (unless its financed).

that being said.  the local harbor police, CG and a bunch of DEA types will be wanting to check you out periodically under the guise of "safety checks".  they will probably limit your travels.

  5. In the State of California you can drive a boat under 39 feet without a Captain's License from the US Coast Guard

  6. Anyone 21 years of age and under who operates a vessel powered by 10 horsepower or more must pass an approved boater safety course and have in his/her possession photographic identification and a boating safety education identification card issued by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

A person must be at least 14 years of age to operate a personal watercraft in this state.

  7. The question was for the state of Florida.  Arguably the most regulated boating state in the country.  A driver's license DOES NOT give you an automatic boating license.  It is an additional endorsement.   It is an addition to your driver's license but only after taking the boater's safety test and only if you are under the age of 18.  That age will go up again fairly shortly to 20 or 21 by 2009 according to the local Power Squadrons Commander.  You have to take the online test and take your certificate to the DMV to get the endorsement.  For minors in the state of Florida you have to have this license for ANY motor vessel and that includes jet skis.  Only jet ski rentals are exempt because of the "safety Briefing" that they give you.  It is not an automatic thing you have to take the online test AND take the completion certificate to the DMV; no other way around it.  I know this answers your question.

  8. Downunder , we need a separate licenCe  but if you get fined for something you did on the water , points can come off your car licence as well.

  9. In Texas there is no such thing as a boaters drivers license. I don't know about other states, but I would venture to say they do not have them either.
