Question:

When you glaze kitchen cabinets do you glaze everything?

I want to glaze my painted kitchen cabinet doors and I was wondering if the glaze is also applied to the frame work of the cabinets? In other words do you apply the glaze to everything? I've seen the doors done and how they leave the glaze heavier in the corners around the trim work/mouldings, but I've never seen if they apply the glaze to the rest of the cabinetry. Has anyone done this?

  1. I  would do the entire cabinets - frame & all (removing hardware first, of course) - if you want a consistent looking end result.  If you are looking for contrast, then you could do one or the other.  Personally, I would do it all the same but that's just my opinion.  Good luck.

  2. I do.  The purpose of a glaze is both to give overall color and to hang up in details, creating a contrast.

  3. Remove the doors and hardware (hinges included), glaze doors and frames, let dry, then reassemble...if you don't, you will have a mess to deal with. Make sure that all surfaces are sparkling clean and lightly sanded so glaze will stick well. Use 400-700 grit paper for the sanding...you do not wnat to disturb the paint finish, just smooth it out and allow the glaze to stick well. Good luck, Goldwing
