  1. Be professional, be friendly, be fair, and be honest! Wait on people in the order they come in, and do not let your friends have special treatment! Make sure that you tell us the truth about the amount of time we will have to wait, and, please,  do not discriminate!

  2. Be friendly and courteous, don't judge the book by it's cover ie.just because somebody is not dressed to the gills does not mean that they are not ready spend good $$ at your restaurant. And don't seat couples that are clearly on a date next to screaming kids, I hate that!

And when you are busy with other guests, acknowledge the people waiting, let them know you'll be right with them, don't let them just stand there forlornly. And SMILE a lot! Have a clean uniform (or whatever the dress code is), keep your hair and makeup (including nails) tidy, you are the first impression the guests will have of the restaurant!

  3. clean, neat, attractive...(perhaps you need makeup tips)...small jewelry, nice manicure, no red nailposlish, french manicures...your server will be with you in just a moment, may I get you anything?  as opposed to many other references to getting ya somthing.

  4. You alone REPRESENT THE FIRST IMPRESSION of that resraurant. I don't know how busy it gets but, there are some essentials to that position. Try not to let anyone stand @ the door unattened, & try to maintain a friendly smile. Always appear to be in control of your position & well composed. If it is busy enough where a waiting list is required, make sure you've established an error free, step by step procedure of keeping track of people( very important ).

There will come a time when the tables are full & the waiting area is full as well, this is when alittle knowledge of the menu can be helpful. If there are specials offered, know them inside & out, so you can offer this info.  Pass menus around or suggest a cocktail @ the bar. Maintain a friendly & calm atmosphere. This is the area of the restaurant that you are in charge of so maintain it's flow. Bussers are @ ur disposal, make sure the wait staff keeps you informed of tables that have paid. Any problem that you have or that you forsee as a problem, that is what a manager is for.

One more thing, always help a lady w/her seat, once she knows where she wants to sit, pull the chair out for her. Try to hand people the menus instead of placing them on the table. Be professional , you not just a host/hostess, your the conductor.   Good luck!!

  5. work out, dress to impress, show some skin and smile more than you need to. s*x sells. I know this sounds cliche, but its true and will help you make more money and have happier customers.

  6. I like it when they smile and look at me, say please when asking us to follow you. Its really not hard to make me happy.
