  1. You probably saw the syringe with remainder of blood being discarded in a "sharps box" a yellow plastic box or tin?

    That will be collected by a special courier and taken to an incinerator(Maybe at the local hospital) and will be burned along with any other "hospital waste"-dirty dressings etc.


  2. I think it's put in the incinerator along with everything else.

  3. Most labs have a policy where the blood is kept for a certain period of time depending on the test(s) that were ordered.  This time will very from lab to lab.  After this time period, the blood is discarded in biohard boxes/cans that are marked as such.  The waste in those boxes is eventually incenerated.
