Question:

When you go to the range, how many golf balls do you normally hit?

I was hitting a medium bucket (96 balls) a few times a week. I met a gentleman who is a coach in the area and says that I should probably hit half as many and take twice as long in between the shots.

How do you wise Y!A -ers feel about the subject? Is 96 too many for one practice session?

Thanks.

  1. Are you out on the range to pound balls , analyze a golf swing, improve technique or develop accuracy ?I am not a fan for ranges . At our club I may go to hit 36 balls at most starting with half wedge, to 8 iron, to 5 iron  some fairway woods topped off with 6 drives. That is the extent. Then 15 minutes chipping and putting, varying the targets on each shot. ending with 6 putts inside 4 feet.

  2. The only problem with hitting too many range balls is that if you do not focus intently you can create bad habits. When you go to the range you need to focus intently on the correct swing, so take your time and do not go firing through them.

  3. You should start out with a wedge ,Pick out a  area to hit to .Hit about 10 balls to that area .Work you way up to your driver .By doing this you get to know your distance of eack club. By duing this you will hit your area my accurate.

  4. It all depends how you feel. Do you feel like you're about to die after hitting 96 balls? if you don't, you're totally fine. if you do feel tired, take it easy. i hit about 80-100 for one practice session. It depends if i practice with just one club for that day, or all my clubs. good luck

  5. Not if that is how many you think you need

But you should slow down in between each shot to make every shot perfect.

    "Perfect pactice makes perfect"

  6. If you hit too many balls and speed through them you will create bad habits

  7. 96 is not "too many" to hit in a session, but you need to concentrate on each ball and try to make a good swing.  It would depend on how long you have for the session.  For me to hit 96 balls would take almost three hours and I usually don't have that much time for a practice session so I only hit about half that many.  You need to line up the shot each time, and go through your pre-shot routine to simulate a real golf shot.  Otherwise you are just beating balls one after another and not accomplishing anything except maybe a good sweat.

  8. Hilton Reno...Floating balls...Great place to hit at night...

Drivers 20-30 per (the whole point of going out there)

    Woods 10-15 per

    Irons 7-10 per

    Wedges 15 per

But, there is no enjoyment more better than to leave about 20 balls to a kid that has been watching you all this time...leave some for the kids...

  9. i usually hit about 15 balls each starting with a wedge, then a long iron, then a driver or wood, then a middle iron and end with a wedge again. i was told never to end with your driver. And as long as you concentrate on your swing everytime you hit then 96 balls wouldnt be considered too many.

  10. I would said depend on what you're trying to fix in your swing or what you working on (draw, fade, low or high ball flight) for me its depend on what I am working on to fix and the mood. sometimes I hit two jumbo (205) bucket or one jumbo or lager (135) bucket. I hit about five balls and take 3 swing and hit five more balls then I step back and compare the shots.

hit as many you need to correct the problem or you feel comfortable with what you're trying to do. but keep this in mind, that everyone is different when working on their swing.

    good luck
