I was in Jrotc in high school and I am about to sign for the USAF.

I will be promoted to E-3 but what more will I be doing besides my actual job?

Just like rotc where you just tell people below you what to do?

  1. You get a little more responsibility... but nothing really changes... see AFI 36-2618, chapter 3.

  2. The difference between and E-1 and an E-3 in the Army was.

    Nothing.

I took JROTC in high school as well.

Your a private. Whether your are a PV1 or a PFC. Your still a Private.

It makes no difference. (Except a small one in your paycheck.)

  3. Depending on your career field, you may be a shift leader etc, you would be responsible for resolving minor issues before they become big ones.

  4. In the military, the higher in paygrade you get, the more responsibilities you get.  In boot camp, the ones with the higher ranks were given additional things to do.  Once in the real military, that will continue.

  5. I'm not sure what it's like in the US Military but in England here's how it goes.

Pvt You concentrate on working your *** off and promotion.

LC pl You still concentrate on working your *** off but you will get a little bit more responsibility.

Cpl, You may become a 2IC or 1IC or a Company. If you do this you will be in charge of training the Soldier's.

Then if you become a NCO (Non Commissioned Officer) You will be in charge of Company.

A Commissioned Officer would be in charge of a whole regiment. You're normally in charge of a Regiment from Captin and above.

  6. In active duty there is almost no difference between E1 and E3, so you wont be telling many people what to do or really any people. The only difference is about 2 hundred bucks a month. Be as hard core as you can be in the chair force!!!!!

  7. In the air force with how easily they give away E-3 (ie, college, or signing for 6 years or ROTC) it means nothing. The main difference is pay. And if a group of people mess up, the supervisor will hold the E-3 more responsible than the E-1. But in every day responsibilities, he will receive nothing more than the E-1 that joined the same day as them. The E-3 might be treated a little better as far as the c**p duties go (emptying trash and what not).

Its unfortunate, but its the way the operational Airforce is.

One benefit is, the E-3 will make it to E-4 ahead of the person who came in as an E-1. But now adays almost everyone comes in as an E-3, so you wont be higher than anyone.

  8. An E-3 has very little responsibility.  The main difference between an E-1 and E-3 is pay.  E-4 is the pay-grade that responsibilities and collateral duties start; E-5s do the bulk of the work.

  9. Your first year after basic you will be learning your job, studying CDC's(upgrade training), and doing as you are told learning more stuff. Your job until you make SrA and SSgt is to learn your job and how to be a functional part of your unit.

E-1 through E3 are considered the same for the most part by your leadership.  The only difference is we will the most senior person in charge (and it can, by AFI, be someone lower ranking than you in the actual USAF).  You have to "follow all legal orders given to you by those appointed over you."

You will not really have the chance to tell people of lower rank what to do until you have a some time as an E4 or even in some career fields an E5.  This would be about the time that you become a supervisor.  The higher the rank the more responsibility you have in the office, the larger the projects, the more people to supervise, the more likely management is to let you do things on your own.

  10. Nope,

Generally all you will do is your job.

E-1, E-2 and E-3 are all treated the same in the AF.

An experienced E-3 with a couple of years in the AF, might be put in a leadership position.

But it is based more on ability, than date of rank.

You generally do not get in a leadership position , until you are an E-4.

Then depending on your AFSC, you might be a team chief in charge of 3 other airmen.

As an E-3, you try telling some other airmen what to do, you might just get your butt kicked.

Also note, if your getting advanced enlistment rank from JROTC.

You do not get promoted, until you graduate basic.

And rank is meaningless at Tech School.

There they have student leaders, green, yellow and red ropes.

The ropes are the leaders, rank plays no part at all.

IE , you could have a E-2 as your rope, so even though your an E-3, he is your boss.
