When you have points on your license...?

Your insurance rates goes up. So when your points are removed, will the insurance rate go back down?

  1. Generally, a US insurance company will charge you for minor offenses (speeding, accidents, etc) for 3-5 years, depending on the company.  Major offenses (DUI, vehicular manslughter, etc) stay on for 5 or more. After that period, yes, the rate will go back down, but only on the renewal.  All increases/decreases due to age, record, etc are added or taken off on renewals.

  2. Eventually they will. It depends on many factors, how long you have been without points, your age, the State you live in, your insurance company.

    Trust me, they aren't as eager to lower your rate as they are to raise it.
