  1. you mean SAVE my life, not SAFE my life.

well you can either jump off the sinking ship with a life jacket on, or you can not jump off the ship and sooner or later (after the boat goes under) you will have to swim without the lifejacket regardless.

  2. Depends on the size of the ship, you probably would not survive a jump from the top deck of a cruise ship (some have 14 or more decks). You should get into a lifeboat which is lowered into the water or move to a lower deck.

Most passenger ships have detailed instructions by the muster stations (assembly points) and do regular drills.

A life jacket will help you float but it won't protect you from the cold. If you are visiting Alaska for example you won't last long in the water, there was an example of a man who floated in the south pacific for 7 weeks before he was picked up.

In the longer term (assuming you are in warm water), dehyration is the biggest issue so you need to collect rain water or drink bottled water.

  3. I would think that you would jump off?

But unless there is something that I am missing...

I think thats about the only answer?

And if someone told you to 'abandon ship' I would ashume you would jump pretty fast.

    Lol.

  4. hold arm across chest pressing life jacket down with dominant arm.  pinch nose and hold hand over mouth with non-dominant hand.  step off ship (don't jump) at last minute when ship is sinking. use whistle to attrack attention, pull legs up in fetal position.
