I am Japanese who studies English. This phrase is in the conversation movie characters were saying. The dance teacher said this to her new dance students. In Japanese, the original one for this translated phrase was "I don't think you will ever be able to be a professional dancer." Is that really right?

  1. This is a more common way of speaking.  It implies that the dancer is not good enough to be a professional.  I think its okay.

  2. "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right."

  3. One of two things.  Either the teacher doesn't believe that a particular move fits in, or the person performing the move is not capable of executing the move properly, convincingly.  But it sounds like either way, it hasn't been tried, there for the "think" part comes into play.  If it has been tried then the teacher would say " This is not working".
