When you hear the phrase, "real man", what type of characteristics do you think of?

When you hear the phrase, "real man", what type of characteristics do you think of?

Physical: Physically strong, taller than me, big arms & hands, nice legs (think basketball player build)

Personality: family-oriented, good with children, admits his faults, is a natural leader.

Not very tolerant nor especially intelligent.

Someone who doesn't eat quiche.

Someone who doesn't know what quiche is.

Not necessarily tough and muscular as most people have put forth, but someone who "just deals with it" when something bad happens.



Someone who does not show their fear or pain, not because he is an unfeeling git, but because of the support it gives those around him who are feeling the same pains.

Someone who will admit when they are wrong, but who is prepared to defend himself when he is right.  He is not hesitant to apologise, or to thank.

Someone who gets back up again when they fall, because they wont give up until they have succeeded in what they are trying to achieve.

Someone who you can rely on to be there when you fall, to give you a hand up, and to stop you from giving up until he has helped you to achieve the same.

Any idiot can go to the gym 5 times per week.  A real man doesn't need the biggest muscles or the most expensive car...  because a real man doesn't need to prove he is better than the next man; the man who does isn't a real man.

Here's what I think:  Guns (okay, weapons in general), food (red meat, or prepared by women), beer, cars (fast or big, mean or s**y), chest hair, war (movies or otherwise), pain, sports, fire, sleep, not asking for directions, face melting guitar riffs, blood and sweat (not tears), big dogs, speeding, pipes and cigars, tattoos, gambling, fight clubs, blowing things up, rational thought and discourse, irrational activities and actions, and never being wrong.....

That's men in a nutshell.
