Question:

When you homeschool, does the state give you the curriculum that they're going to use on the state tests?

Or do you just have to teach your child everything in the books to make sure you've covered what is on the tests? I've heard that teachers see all the questions on the state tests and teach their students all of the info covered by the tests.

How do you start homeschooling?

And do the homeschooled kids get summer vacations?

  1. You can homeschool

-public school-free from http://www.k12.com (if they have a program in your state)

-privately-you pick all the books and curriculum, course of study

-virtual school-they oversee your education, you pay and they supervise, hold records

Your state will then require you to possibly:

    -fill out forms

    -keep attendance

    -keep records of work completed

    -take standardized tests

-or possibly not require you to do anything more than notify them

Yes, homeschool kids get summer break if the parent decides to conduct school on a regular school schedule.

    Best of Luck to You!,

  2. Here's my answer. I have been homeschooled my whole life (K-10). I lived in Ohio and North Carolina and neither give you curriculums to study from. My mom usually checks the school websites and other educational sites to see what the public schools teach and what is usually covered and required for each grade. That way she knows what to teach. And, when she orders my tests she goes through them weeks before to see if there is anything we need to review or haven't covered.

Yes, homeschooled kids DO get summer vacation; I do! And to start homeschooling you need a committed parent (s), a willing child and the ambition and dedication to find out all the facts, contact your state's Dept. of Edu. and get all of your resources and ducks in order. It isn't easy, but it is so worthwhile.
