I want to be a medic in the army but I wanted to be like a heli medic instead of standing out in the frontlines. I realize either way theres a chance your gonna die but I've accepted that. I'm just wondering if I can decide what medic position I serve?

  1. Flight medics have to go through some additional schooling to be certified. Medics go everywhere so with such a big need for them CONUS and abroad, your request would pretty much go unanswered.  Not to say don't ask, just don't expect to be entertained by PERSCOM (personnel command)---the same staff who make assignments.

Work as a medic some before jumping into an andvance field.  Then ensure you're physically ready for the advanced responsibilities involved in this job.

Flight medics earn wings just like other aviator support personnel.

Flight training and certification usually gets offered to applicants meeting strict criteria and have proven themselves in their field.  They are also subject to the same physical requirements as pilots (at least most requirements).

Consider attaining ACLS, BTLS, PHTLS, PALS as well as instructing BLS to help with your chances at being selected.   Bottom line, it's pretty competitive so separating yourself from your peers is essential if you're that interested in being a candidate.

You have more options once in and have served as a medic for a bit.

  2. You'd have to talk with a recruiter & take the ASVAB to see if you're qualified for the job.
