  1. I listen to the words and understand them.  Music is just poetry w/ rhythm & beats.

  2. sometimes, i'll even look them up on the net to find out what they are but in the old, old days, "albums" came with liners with the words on them, and we'd learn the words that way if they couldn't be clearly understood in the song. . .

as to understanding them, i guess as in taking them to heart, i'm pretty sure that's the point of music and all the arts - each person interprets and gets their own meaning from art. . . and if it's the meaning the artist intended, then that's a bonus. . .

  3. Well, I used to just always listen, but not completely.  Most of the time music was in the background.  After I met my (now) husband, I actually began to really listen to the lyrics and the music and have found that both create (very often) a very strong message.  I am proud to say that I now really do listen to the music and the lyrics.  It is an art and deserves to be given attention.

  4. I listen to the words for the meaning of the song, the meaning behind the words.  So many songs (good songs, not like that rap c**p) have a decent story behind them and sometimes hit close to home in their meaning.

  5. For the most part I can understand them, if I don't understand a word they say I just look on the lyrics page.  Mostly for words that sound like something else.
