I was heading down I95 from NY to NC for vacation . A black chevy truck pulled up next to me with two men in it and the passenger said “You coming from NY..so are we..where ya heading?”. I told him. He said his name was Dale Earnhart and that he was coming from an awards ceremony. At first it was like his name sounds familiar but who is he? I did not watch NASCAR at the time but I must’ve heard the name before. We drove mostly side by side down I95. Once when I got in a wrong lane in a traffic jam, he told me, then kept traffic back so that I could get out of it. After driving for hours he said pull over at the rest stop up here. (very public ) I did as I needed a rest.He bought me a soda and talked for about 10 minutes. He was heading on down I95 and I was going to Wilmington. As he left he said “One of your lights are out”. He gave it a kick and it came back on. No pics, just a treasured memory of a real good down to earth man.

  1. d**n U lucky son of a gun! :D

    Go Dale Jr.!!!!!!!

  2. I've met many drivers since I was a young kid.  Most of these experiences were really good.  I actually am a friend of Denny Hamlin, I graduated high school with him and used to help him out at Southside Motor Speedway back when we were in school.  Most of those guys are really down to earth!!

  3. That is a great story, they say Dale Earnhardt off the track was one of the most caring guys in the world. One time he was signing autographs in the winter and when he left there was a pregnant woman who didn't get his signature and he took off his jacket, signed it and said, "Give that your husband for Christmas!!"

How many NASCAR drivers have you seen getting busted for stupid stuff like these other "professional" athletes???????

  4. I haven't and wouldnt really care to I dont think.  Outside of the car, they're just dudes like everybody else.

  5. I have no  KeWL story's nor have i ever even met a driver before but your story is KEWL!!!!!

  6. The only ones I ever met or seen were at the track in Riverside, CA they don't race there anymore, but I met Bobby Allison, Richard Petty, and AJ Foyt. Allison and Petty were really cool, AJ was not, he wouldn't sign autographs or even talk to people, he'd just walk away. Your story is really cool, we love Dale Jr. hoping he wins the race tomorrow.

  7. I have never met any of the drivers wish I could say differently but your story is one of the best I've heard!! That is really cool and boy what a memory!! Thanks for sharing!!!

  8. Well I have met Tony Stewart before and let me tell you it was one of the best days of my life. Tony is one of my favorite Nascar drivers so meeting his was very cool. Your story blows my story out of the park though!

  9. First one I meet was a friendly individual and almost everyone since has been. Some fans are in considerant and this makes the driver seem stand-offish,but for the most part the drivers are fan friendly.

  10. I met Jamie McMurray at a truck stop in Joplin, Missouri about a year and a half ago. He was just like any other person I've ever met.

  11. You have a great story.  I met Tony Stewart and he was very nice and personable.  I wished that people who didn't like him had a chance to meet and talk with him.  He's a great guy and does so much for charity, especially the Petty's Victory Junction Camp for children.
